MEGlobal sponsors “Light Up The Night” Halloween Safety Program

Fort Saskatchewan, October 21st, 2009

Local streets will glow with trick or treaters thanks to the Light Up the Night Halloween Safety Program. More than 2,300 elementary students in the communities of Fort Saskatchewan, Bruderheim, Josephburg and Lamont will be provided with a GlowStick to wear, increasing their visibility to make Halloween a safe and fun-filled evening.

Light Up the Night 2009 Halloween Safety program is sponsored by MEGlobal Fort Saskatchewan, the Fort Saskatchewan and District Block Parents Association, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and KDL Safety Lite.

Light Up the Night focuses on Halloween safety and benefits the entire community,” says Michelle Komlance, acting chairperson, Fort Saskatchewan and District Block Parents Association. “This is the program’s twelfth year, and thanks to MEGlobal’s sponsorship, children and families in Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding communities will learn about Halloween safety and take steps to be seen this Halloween night.”

MEGlobal provided funding for the purchase of the Halloween Safety Packs which include GlowSticks, a non-flammable and non-heat producing light source that will help children be visible from over one kilometre away. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and part of everything we do at MEGlobal,” says Pravind Ramdial, Senior Production Leader at MEGlobal Fort Saskatchewan. “By taking the safety message to the students, we teach them to make safety part of everything they do.”

“We ask that children and parents help ensure safety on Halloween by using the GlowSticks and practicing the recommended safety tips,” said Constable Brian McLeod, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP. “Working together as a community makes Halloween safe for everyone.”

Representatives from the partner organizations will distribute GlowSticks and Halloween safety brochures in conjunction with safety presentations at elementary schools at the end of the month.
