REACHing for Chemicals Management in Europe

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals regulation) is the new, single regulatory system for chemicals management in the European Union (EU). The regulation came into force June 1, 2007 and the chemical industry – from raw materials suppliers to manufacturers and importers – had to comply with the pre-registration phase which ended on December 1, 2008. Deadlines for registration range between November 2010 and May 2018, depending upon substance volume and classification.

REACH Requirements
REACH requires that EU manufacturers and importers of substances into the EU (at one tonne or more per year per legal entity) disclose information on the properties of their substances, including the risk to humans and the environment associated with use. Information on appropriate risk reduction measures must also be provided.
